Most popular air fryer brands, including Ninja and Cosori, manufacture their products in China. But a handful of alternatives exist if you’re looking for air fryers made elsewhere, including models from France, South Korea, and the United States. The options are limited, and finding a non-China air fryer often means paying more or choosing a less conventional design.
Why Most Air Fryers Come From China
China dominates small kitchen appliance manufacturing. Ninja, one of the best-selling air fryer brands in the U.S., produces its air fryers in specialized manufacturing hubs across China. Cosori, another hugely popular brand, also manufactures in China. Even brands headquartered in other countries often rely on Chinese factories for production. This isn’t unique to air fryers; it reflects how the global supply chain works for consumer electronics and small appliances.
The result is that if you pick up a random air fryer at a big-box store, it will almost certainly say “Made in China” on the label. Finding alternatives requires some deliberate searching.
Tefal (T-Fal) Actifry: Made in France
Tefal’s Actifry line is the most well-known non-China option for home use. Tefal has deep manufacturing roots in Rumilly, France, a town near the Bauges Mountains that the company has called home since its founding. The Rumilly facility employs over 1,600 people and produced more than 35 million kitchen items in 2022 alone.
The Actifry uses a different design than conventional basket-style air fryers. It features a rotating paddle that stirs food during cooking, so you don’t need to shake the basket halfway through. Earlier Actifry models, like the Series 001, were manufactured in France. However, Tefal (sold as T-Fal in North America) produces a wide range of products across multiple factories globally, so not every model in their current lineup necessarily comes from France. Check the product listing or packaging for the specific “Made in France” label before purchasing.
Philips: Some Models Made in Poland
Philips invented the modern air fryer and still sells several popular models. Their manufacturing situation is mixed. Some Philips air fryers have been produced in Poland rather than China, but the labeling can be confusing. At least one customer reported that their Philips Airfryer XL had “Made in China” printed on the box while the unit itself was stamped “Made in Poland.”
Philips doesn’t make it easy to filter by manufacturing country when shopping online, so you may not know exactly where your unit was made until it arrives. If this matters to you, buying from a retailer with a good return policy gives you a safety net. The HD9240 Airfryer XL is one model that has been reported as Polish-made, though production origins can shift between batches.
Quik n’ Crispy: Made in the USA
If you specifically want an American-made air fryer, your options are mostly commercial. Quik n’ Crispy is a U.S. manufacturer that builds air fryers designed for commercial kitchens, food trucks, and restaurant environments. These are countertop units made with American-sourced components, but they’re built for business use, not typical home cooking. They’re larger, more expensive, and sold through restaurant supply channels rather than consumer retailers.
No widely available home air fryer is currently manufactured in the United States. The economics of small appliance production make U.S. manufacturing difficult at consumer price points.
South Korean Brands
South Korea is home to several appliance companies that produce air fryers. Brands like Cuckoo, known primarily for rice cookers, have expanded into air fryer territory. South Korean brands often manufacture in their home country or in Southeast Asian countries like Vietnam and Thailand rather than China, though this varies by model. As with any brand, verify the specific country of origin on the product page or packaging rather than assuming based on where the company is headquartered.
How to Verify Where an Air Fryer Is Made
Brand headquarters and manufacturing location are two different things. A company based in Germany, Japan, or the U.S. may still produce its appliances in China. The only reliable way to confirm origin is to look for the “Made in” label, which is required on products sold in the United States.
- Check product listings carefully. Amazon and other retailers sometimes list the country of origin in the product specifications, though this information is occasionally missing or inaccurate.
- Look at the physical product. The “Made in” stamp is typically on the bottom of the unit or on a label near the power cord. This is more reliable than what’s printed on the box.
- Contact the manufacturer. If a specific production country matters to you, reaching out to the brand’s customer service before buying is the most direct route to a clear answer.
- Watch for model changes. A brand that manufactured a certain model in Poland or France last year may have shifted production to China for the current version. Manufacturing origins are not permanent.
What You’re Trading Off
Choosing a non-China air fryer typically means fewer options, higher prices, or both. The most popular basket-style air fryers with extensive online reviews, large accessory ecosystems, and competitive pricing are overwhelmingly Chinese-made. Brands like Ninja and Cosori dominate the market partly because Chinese manufacturing keeps costs low while maintaining the quality most consumers expect.
The Tefal Actifry is the strongest option for a home air fryer made outside China, but its paddle-stirring design is a departure from the deep basket style most people picture when they think of an air fryer. Philips offers a more conventional design with the possibility of Polish manufacturing, but you can’t always guarantee which factory your specific unit came from. And the Quik n’ Crispy route only makes sense if you’re outfitting a commercial operation or don’t mind the higher price and larger footprint of a commercial unit in your kitchen.
