It’s a popular adaptogen found in many pre-workout and nootropic blends, and it actively stimulates the thyroid gland to produce and release more thyroid hormone.

For most people, this means taking thyroid medication at 5 or 6 a.m. and training mid-morning or later.

If you train early and that 4-hour window isn’t realistic, consider taking levothyroxine at bedtime instead. The guidelines allow for evening dosing as long as you haven’t eaten for at least 4 hours before taking the pill. This frees up your morning entirely for pre-workout and training without any absorption concerns.

There’s also encouraging news for early risers who prefer morning dosing. A pilot study found that light exercise, specifically a 30-minute walk at regular speed immediately after taking levothyroxine, actually improved absorption of the medication. So gentle movement after your thyroid pill isn’t a problem. The issue is specifically with consuming other supplements or food too soon.
