Visceral fat, the deep abdominal fat packed around your liver, intestines, and other organs, responds well to a combination of exercise, dietary changes, and lifestyle shifts. The good news is that visceral fat is actually more metabolically active than the fat just under your skin, which means it breaks down faster once you create the right conditions. In studies combining diet and exercise over 14 weeks, participants lost roughly 13% of their visceral fat. The key is understanding what drives visceral fat specifically, because the strategies that shrink it aren’t always identical to general weight loss advice.
Why Visceral Fat Burns Differently

Reducing added sugars and refined carbohydrates addresses the fructose-driven pathway that builds liver and visceral fat. Managing stress lowers the cortisol signal that directs fat into your abdominal cavity. Sleeping six to seven hours protects against the hormonal disruption that promotes deep fat storage.
