Why the Window Is 2 to 3 Days
Adderall contains two forms of amphetamine. One has an average elimination half-life of 10 hours in adults, and the other averages 13 hours. A half-life is the time it takes your body to clear half the drug from your system. It generally takes about 5.5 half-lives for a substance to drop below detectable levels. Using the 10-hour half-life, that works out to roughly 55 hours, or just over 2 days. Using the 13-hour half-life, you’re looking at closer to 3 days.
This math applies to a single dose at a standard therapeutic amount. Your body processes the drug, the kidneys filter it into urine, and concentrations steadily decline until they fall below the test’s detection threshold.
How Regular Use Extends Detection
If you take Adderall daily, the drug accumulates in your system faster than your body can fully clear each dose. Each new dose adds to what’s still circulating from the previous one. For people who use amphetamines frequently, urine tests can return positive for up to a week after the last dose. Higher doses compound this effect because there’s simply more drug for your body to process.
Urine pH Makes a Surprising Difference

Labs can distinguish amphetamine from methamphetamine. If amphetamine is present without methamphetamine, that’s consistent with Adderall use rather than methamphetamine use.
