How fast you feel it kick in depends on the formulation. Standard ibuprofen tablets reach their peak blood concentration in about 1 to 1.25 hours. Liquid-filled capsules (like Advil Liqui-Gels) get there faster, peaking around 30 minutes. Age. Older adults tend to have slower liver metabolism and reduced kidney filtration, which can extend how long ibuprofen lingers. This is one reason lower doses are generally recommended for older adults.
Other medications. Ibuprofen is processed primarily by a liver enzyme called CYP2C9. Drugs that compete for or inhibit that same enzyme can slow ibuprofen clearance, keeping it in your system longer.
