If you want the convenience of an oral product without committing to an 8-hour experience, sublingual options offer a shorter, more controllable window.
Traditional edibles like gummies, brownies, and chocolates go through full digestion and liver processing, which is why they take 1 to 2 hours to kick in and can last up to 8 hours or more.
Why Adding CBD Doesn’t Shorten the High
A common piece of advice is that CBD can counteract or shorten a THC high. For edibles specifically, research from Johns Hopkins Medicine found the opposite is true. In a controlled study, participants who ate a brownie containing both THC and a high dose of CBD had nearly twice the amount of THC in their blood compared to those who ate a brownie with the same THC dose but no CBD. The CBD appeared to block the liver from breaking down THC normally, resulting in a stronger, longer-lasting high with more cognitive impairment and more unwanted side effects. So if you’re hoping to cut your edible high short, reaching for a CBD product is unlikely to help and could actually make things worse.
The Next-Day Hangover Effect
