That’s a small space in orthodontic terms, but the timeline varies quite a bit depending on your age, the type of gap, and how your body responds to the forces braces apply. Why the Timeline Ranges From 6 Weeks to 3 Months

Teeth don’t slide through bone the way you might imagine. Moving a tooth requires your body to actively break down bone on one side and build new bone on the other. When braces apply pressure, cells on the compressed side dissolve existing bone to make room, while cells on the stretched side deposit new bone to fill the space left behind. This biological remodeling process takes time, and it happens at different speeds in different people.

Clinical studies show that teeth in braces move at rates between 0.55 and 2.44 mm per month during active alignment. At the faster end of that range, a 1mm gap could close in about two weeks.
