Kratom does not show up on standard 5-panel or 10-panel drug screenings. Those tests look for opioids, THC, amphetamines, benzodiazepines, and cocaine. A single dose of kratom clears your system much faster than weeks of daily use. Over time, those tissue stores build up, and it takes considerably longer for levels to drop below detectable thresholds once you stop.
Occasional low-dose users may clear kratom in just a few days. Heavy, long-term users can have detectable traces for well over a week, and some estimates suggest even longer depending on the testing method. Factors That Speed Up or Slow Down Clearance

Body fat percentage and BMI. Because mitragynine is fat-soluble, people with higher body fat tend to store more of it in adipose tissue and release it more slowly. This can meaningfully extend both the duration of effects and the detection window.
Age and liver function. The liver’s enzyme activity naturally declines with age, and any existing liver conditions further slow metabolism. Younger, healthier livers clear mitragynine faster.
Dose size. Higher doses take longer to eliminate, both because there’s simply more compound to process and because mitragynine’s inhibition of its own metabolizing enzyme becomes more pronounced at higher concentrations.
Other substances. Medications or foods that compete for the same liver enzyme pathway can delay kratom clearance. This includes common categories like certain antifungal drugs, some antibiotics, and HIV medications, all of which are processed by the same CYP3A4 enzyme.
Hydration and metabolism. General metabolic rate, kidney function, and hydration status play smaller but real roles. Staying well-hydrated supports kidney filtration, though it won’t dramatically shorten detection times on its own.
What This Means for Drug Testing
Most people taking a standard pre-employment or workplace drug test will not be screened for kratom. It simply isn’t part of routine panels. The risk of detection exists mainly in specialized contexts: court-ordered testing, probation screenings, military testing, or substance abuse treatment programs that specifically add kratom to their panels.
