A study published in The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine measured how fast monacolin K disappears from the blood after taking red yeast rice versus pharmaceutical lovastatin. The red yeast rice version had an elimination half-life of roughly 2.15 hours, meaning half the compound is gone from your blood every two hours or so.
