Roxy, the street name for Roxicodone (immediate-release oxycodone), has an elimination half-life of 3.5 to 4 hours. That means the drug’s concentration in your blood drops by half roughly every 4 hours. Most of it clears your bloodstream within 24 hours, but it remains detectable in urine for 1 to 2 days and in hair for up to 90 days, depending on the type of test used.
How Long Roxy Stays Detectable by Test Type
Different drug tests have very different detection windows because they measure the drug (or its breakdown products) in different parts of your body. Here’s what to expect:
- Blood: Roughly 1 to 1.5 days after your last dose.
- Urine: 1 to 1.5 days for standard immunoassay screens. More sensitive lab methods that look for specific breakdown products can detect traces for up to about 50 hours (just over 2 days) at lower cutoff thresholds.
- Saliva: Up to 48 hours.
- Hair: Up to 90 days. Hair testing captures a much longer history because drug residues become embedded in the hair shaft as it grows.
The urine window deserves extra detail because urine screens are by far the most common test. Your body breaks oxycodone down into several byproducts, and labs often look for those byproducts rather than the original drug. At the standard 300 ng/mL cutoff used in many workplace and clinical panels, the main metabolite is detectable for roughly 29 hours on average. Your liver does most of the work. It uses a specific enzyme pathway (CYP3A4) to convert oxycodone into inactive and active byproducts, which your kidneys then filter into urine. Because those byproducts linger in urine longer than the parent drug stays in blood, urine tests catch use for a longer window than blood tests.

Liver and Kidney Health

Women tend to have oxycodone blood concentrations about 25% higher than men even after adjusting for body weight. This means women generally clear the drug more slowly and may test positive for a somewhat longer period after the same dose.
Other Medications
Anything that interferes with the liver enzyme responsible for breaking down oxycodone can change how long it stays in your system. Certain antifungal medications, antibiotics, and even grapefruit juice inhibit that enzyme, causing oxycodone to build up and clear more slowly. On the other hand, some seizure medications and herbal supplements speed the enzyme up, clearing oxycodone faster.
Genetics
People carry different versions of the genes that code for drug-metabolizing enzymes. A small percentage of the population metabolizes oxycodone unusually slowly due to genetic differences, which can lead to accumulation and prolonged detection. There are documented cases of oxycodone toxicity in individuals whose genetic makeup prevented normal breakdown of the drug.
Hydration
Urine drug concentrations depend partly on how hydrated you are. Drinking large amounts of water dilutes urine, which can lower concentrations below a test’s cutoff threshold. However, many labs also test for dilution and may flag or reject a sample that appears excessively watered down, sometimes requiring a retest.
Dosage and Frequency of Use
A single low dose clears faster than repeated or high doses. Chronic use allows oxycodone and its byproducts to accumulate in body tissues, extending the detection window beyond what the standard ranges suggest. Someone who has been taking Roxy daily for weeks will test positive for longer than someone who took a single pill.
When Withdrawal Symptoms Start
Because Roxy is a short-acting opioid, withdrawal symptoms typically begin 8 to 24 hours after the last dose. Early signs include anxiety, muscle aches, sweating, and restlessness. Symptoms usually peak around days 2 to 3 and can persist for 4 to 10 days total. The onset of withdrawal closely tracks the drug leaving your system: once blood levels drop far enough, your body notices the absence and reacts.
It’s worth noting that feeling withdrawal symptoms does not necessarily mean the drug is fully undetectable on a test.
