But blood clearance and urine detection aren’t the same thing. Metabolites linger in urine after the drug itself has left your blood, which is why a urine test can still pick up traces even when you no longer feel any effects.
Factors That Extend Detection Time
Several biological variables shift how quickly your body clears alprazolam, and the differences can be dramatic.

False Positives for Benzodiazepines
If you haven’t taken Xanax but received a positive benzodiazepine result, a few medications are known to cause false positives on immunoassay screens. The antidepressant sertraline (Zoloft) and the anti-inflammatory oxaprozin have both been documented as triggers. Sertraline in particular has been shown to cross-react with certain immunoassay techniques used in labs.
