What Happens in Your Body Before a Test Can Work

Conception occurs within 12 to 24 hours after ovulation, but the fertilized egg then spends about six days traveling down the fallopian tube before it implants into the uterine lining. Home urine tests generally need higher concentrations to trigger a visible line, so they’re most reliable about 10 to 14 days after conception, or starting on the first day of a missed period.
