How Many Calories Are in a Bottle of White Wine?

A standard 750ml bottle of dry white wine contains roughly 600 to 615 calories. Sweeter whites like Moscato push that number closer to 635 calories per bottle. The exact count depends on the wine’s alcohol level and residual sugar, but most bottles you’d pick up at a store fall within that range.

A standard bottle holds five 5-ounce glasses. Using per-glass calorie counts, here’s how popular white wines compare across a full bottle:

Why Sugar Changes the Math

These wines are typically served in much smaller pours, but if you drank a full bottle, you’d be looking at well over 700 calories from sugar alone, on top of whatever the alcohol contributes.

White Wine vs. Red Wine

Serving size matters more than most people realize. The standard 5-ounce pour that calorie counts are based on looks modest in a large wine glass. Restaurant pours often run 6 ounces, and at home, people frequently pour closer to 7 or 8. If your typical glass is 8 ounces, you’re drinking about 195 calories per glass of dry white, not 120. Three of those glasses exceed the calorie content of an entire “standard” bottle’s worth of servings.

Lower-Calorie Options

If you want to keep calories as low as possible, look for wines with lower alcohol content. A dry Riesling at around 120 calories per glass is consistently one of the lightest options. Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc are also reliable choices, both landing near 122 to 123 calories per glass with minimal carbs (about 3 to 5 grams per serving).

A growing number of brands now market “low-calorie” wines, typically achieving their lower counts by reducing alcohol content to 8 or 9%. These can bring a full bottle down to the 400 to 500 calorie range. The tradeoff is a lighter body and less flavor intensity, which some drinkers enjoy and others find thin. Checking the ABV on the label remains the most reliable way to estimate calories when you don’t have specific nutritional information available.
