A 150-pound woman, for example, weighs about 68 kilograms. Her daily range would be 68 to 82 grams of protein.
If you’re very active or doing strength training, the range shifts higher. Recommendations for athletic women go up to 1.2 to 2.0 grams per kilogram of body weight per day. That same 150-pound woman could need anywhere from 82 to 136 grams depending on training intensity. During periods of calorie restriction (common when trying to lose weight), protein needs per kilogram actually increase because your body requires more to preserve lean tissue while in a calorie deficit.
