But the ideal frequency depends on what you’re treating, how powerful your device is, and where you are in your treatment timeline. More isn’t always better with red light therapy. There’s a sweet spot where the dose stimulates healing, and going beyond it can actually reduce the benefits.

If you’re new to red light therapy, start with shorter sessions of 5 to 10 minutes, a few times per week. This lets you gauge how your skin and body respond before ramping up. Once you’re comfortable, most goals call for 10 to 20 minutes per session, 3 to 5 days a week. After you’ve reached your initial goals, dropping down to 2 to 3 sessions per week is typically enough to maintain results.

Safety With Regular Use
