In some pregnant cycles, a third distinct temperature shift appears roughly 7 to 10 days after ovulation. This pattern, called a triphasic chart, is driven by a secondary rise in progesterone triggered by implantation.

A triphasic pattern doesn’t guarantee pregnancy. Some non-pregnant cycles show a similar shift. But if you see a clear third rise around days 7 to 10 in combination with other subtle signs, it adds a small piece of supporting evidence. It’s one of the few physical clues that can appear before a missed period and before a home pregnancy test turns positive.

The symptoms most people associate with early pregnancy, like morning nausea, strong food aversions, frequent urination, and persistent fatigue, generally don’t show up until after a missed period. By that point, hCG levels have climbed high enough to produce effects that are harder to confuse with a normal cycle.
