If yours is running high, whether from stress, caffeine, poor sleep, or general deconditioning, several techniques can bring it down quickly, and lifestyle changes can keep it lower over time. Breathing Techniques for Immediate Relief
Slow, controlled breathing is one of the fastest ways to lower your heart rate because it directly activates the part of your nervous system responsible for calming you down. Minerals That Support Heart Rhythm
Magnesium plays a direct role in maintaining a normal heartbeat. A resting heart rate consistently above 100 beats per minute is classified as tachycardia and warrants a medical evaluation to rule out underlying causes like thyroid problems, anemia, or heart rhythm disorders. Occasional spikes from exercise, caffeine, or stress are normal and not a concern.
Certain symptoms alongside a fast heart rate signal something more urgent: chest pain, fainting or near-fainting, severe lightheadedness, or shortness of breath at rest. One particularly dangerous rhythm, called ventricular fibrillation, causes blood pressure to collapse and requires emergency treatment within minutes.
