Why Cold Water Is Non-Negotiable

Blood is a protein. Hot water cooks that protein into the fabric the same way heat turns a raw egg white solid, creating a permanent stain that no amount of scrubbing will fix. Warm water under 30°C (86°F) is acceptable, but cold is safer and more effective at keeping blood from setting.

Run them through a cold, gentle machine cycle using a detergent that contains protease enzymes. These enzymes specifically target and break down protein-based stains like blood, sweat, and skin oils, and they’re far more effective at it than standard surfactant-only detergents. Many common detergents already contain proteases, so check the label for “enzymes” or “protease” in the ingredients. Continue to avoid anything with added fragrance, dyes, or fabric softener. How Long Period Underwear Lasts

After that point, antibacterial and odor-control treatments in the fabric begin to fade, though the absorption capacity and structural integrity of the fabric itself typically hold up longer.
