A body scan is a meditation where you move your attention slowly through each part of your body, noticing physical sensations without trying to change them. The Basic Sequence

Keep your eyes open with a soft, unfocused gaze directed at the ceiling or a point on the floor. Avoid practicing immediately after waking up or right before bed, when your body is already primed for sleep.

If you notice your mind racing rather than wandering gently, slow down. Spend more time on each body part. Count breaths at each stop if it helps: three slow breaths for the feet, three for the calves, and so on.
