Astronomy tables in Hogwarts Legacy are stone slabs scattered across the open world that let you align a telescope with star patterns to reveal constellations. There are 15 in total, and completing all of them rewards you with the Starry-Eyed Seer’s Cape, a celestial blue robe appearance. Here’s exactly how they work and what you need to do.
Unlocking Astronomy Tables
You can’t use astronomy tables right away. They become available after you complete the “Attend Astronomy Class” quest, which itself only unlocks after you’ve finished both Percival Rackham’s Trial and The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and The Loom. That second quest also unlocks gear upgrading at the loom, so if you haven’t reached that point in the main story yet, keep progressing and the astronomy quest will appear naturally.
Once you attend the astronomy class, every astronomy table in the game becomes interactable. You’ll start seeing their icons appear on your map as you explore or get close to them.
How to Use an Astronomy Table
Each astronomy table works the same way. Walk up to one, and you’ll get a prompt to interact. But there’s one requirement: it must be nighttime. If it’s daytime, or even that in-between dusk period, the table won’t let you do anything. To fix this, open your world map and press the Wait button (F on PC, right stick press on Xbox, or the equivalent on PlayStation) to skip ahead to night.
Once you interact at night, the game shifts to a telescope view of the sky. You’ll see a faint constellation outline that you need to match against the actual stars. Use your controls to rotate and zoom the telescope until the outline lines up perfectly with the star pattern. The constellation name will appear when you lock it in, things like Lupus or other recognizable star patterns. The alignment doesn’t need to be pixel-perfect, but you do need to get it close enough that the game registers a match.
Each table has one specific constellation assigned to it. Once you solve it, the table is marked as complete on your map and you never need to return to it.
Finding All 15 Tables
The 15 astronomy tables are spread across the entire open world, not just near Hogwarts. You’ll find them in various regions of the Highlands, often on elevated terrain like hilltops, cliff edges, or tower ruins where a real astronomer would logically set up a telescope. They appear as small star icons on your map once you’re in range or have revealed that section of the map through exploration.
If you’re working toward full completion, it helps to clear them region by region as you explore for other collectibles. Many are near Floo Flame fast travel points, so you can quickly pop over, wait for nightfall, solve the puzzle, and move on. Since the alignment puzzle itself only takes about 30 seconds once you know what you’re doing, the real time investment is the travel between them.
What You Get for Completing Them
Each astronomy table you finish counts toward your exploration progress and contributes to the Challenges menu. The big payoff comes at 15 out of 15: you receive the Starry-Eyed Seer’s Cape, described in-game as “a cape in celestial blue for the master astronomer.” This is a cosmetic appearance for your robe slot, so you can apply it over any robe without affecting your stats.
If a Table Won’t Activate
The most common reason you can’t interact with an astronomy table is simply the time of day. Even if the sky looks dark to you, the game may still consider it twilight rather than full night. Open the map and use the Wait function to cycle to a later hour. If it still won’t work, try waiting a second time to push further into the night.
If you haven’t completed the Attend Astronomy Class quest, no table in the world will respond to you regardless of the time. Check your quest log to confirm you’ve finished that step. In rare cases, fast traveling away from the area and returning can also resolve interaction glitches where the prompt simply doesn’t appear.
