That said, a smartwatch notification isn’t a diagnosis. These devices are best at catching atrial fibrillation and may not reliably identify other types of irregular rhythms. They’re useful as an early alert system, especially for people who feel occasional palpitations but can never seem to reproduce them during a doctor’s visit.
