What Insulin Pumps Are Compatible with Dexcom G6?

Three insulin pumps currently work with the Dexcom G6 continuous glucose monitor: the Tandem t:slim X2, the Tandem Mobi, and the Omnipod 5. All three go beyond simply displaying your glucose readings. They use G6 data to automatically adjust insulin delivery throughout the day, reducing the amount of manual management you need to do.

Tandem t:slim X2

The t:slim X2 is the most established pump in the G6-compatible lineup. It connects to the G6 sensor and uses that data in two ways, depending on which software feature you’re using. With Basal-IQ technology, the pump predicts your glucose level 30 minutes ahead and suspends insulin delivery if it expects you to drop below 80 mg/dL. This helps prevent lows before they happen rather than reacting after the fact. With Control-IQ technology, the pump goes further by also increasing insulin to bring down highs, essentially adjusting delivery in both directions.

The t:slim X2 holds up to 300 units of insulin in its reservoir and runs on a rechargeable lithium polymer battery, so there are no disposable batteries to replace. It does require tubing and is compatible only with Tandem’s own infusion sets. If you’re considering this pump and wondering about the newer Dexcom G7 sensor, a software update (version 7.7) lets the t:slim X2 work with both G6 and G7 sensors. You can use up any remaining G6 sensors and switch to G7 whenever you’re ready, since the pump accepts sensor codes from both.

Omnipod 5

The Omnipod 5 is the only tubeless option that integrates with the G6. Instead of a traditional pump body with tubing running to an infusion site, the Omnipod 5 uses a small adhesive pod that sticks directly to your skin and delivers insulin from there. The pod communicates with your G6 sensor via Bluetooth.

Its automated system, called SmartAdjust, predicts where your glucose is heading and increases or decreases insulin delivery accordingly. You set a target glucose level, and the algorithm works to keep you near it. The pods are disposable and replaced every three days. For many users, the appeal is the freedom from tubing and the smaller visible footprint, though the tradeoff is that each pod is discarded rather than refilled.

Tandem Mobi

The Tandem Mobi is the newest and smallest pump compatible with the G6. It uses the same Control-IQ algorithm as the t:slim X2 but in a significantly more compact design. One notable difference is how you interact with it: the Mobi is designed to be controlled primarily through a mobile app on your phone rather than a screen on the pump itself. iOS devices are currently supported, with Android compatibility FDA-approved in 2025 and expected to launch in 2026.

If your phone isn’t handy, the Mobi does have a physical button that lets you deliver a bolus of insulin without the app. This is a useful backup, though day-to-day management is built around the smartphone experience. Like the t:slim X2, the Mobi uses tubing and Tandem infusion sets.

How to Choose Between Them

The decision often comes down to a few practical preferences. If you want a tubeless system, the Omnipod 5 is your only option with G6 compatibility. If you prefer a traditional pump with a built-in screen and don’t want to rely on your phone, the t:slim X2 is the most self-contained choice. If small size and phone-based control appeal to you, the Mobi offers the most modern form factor.

All three pumps use your G6 data to automate insulin adjustments, so the core benefit of pairing a pump with the G6 is similar across all of them. The differences are in how you wear the pump, how you interact with it, and whether you’re comfortable with tubing. Insurance coverage and your endocrinologist’s recommendation will also play a role, since not all plans cover every system equally.

G6 vs. G7 Compatibility

Dexcom has been transitioning users from the G6 to the newer G7 sensor, and pump manufacturers are following. The Tandem t:slim X2 already supports both sensors through a software update, so you can switch between G6 and G7 freely. The Omnipod 5 and Tandem Mobi also support G7 integration. If you’re currently using the G6 and happy with it, there’s no immediate pressure to switch. But if you’re choosing a pump now, it’s worth knowing that all three systems are built to work with both sensor generations, giving you flexibility as G6 supplies eventually phase out.
