Nurses who graduated from international programs must verify their credentials through an independent review agency and, if their program wasn’t taught in English, pass an English proficiency exam.

Nurses work in schools, public health departments, corporate wellness programs, telehealth platforms, home health agencies, and military settings. Public health nurses focus on entire communities rather than individual patients, implementing health programs and educating populations about disease prevention.
A growing number of nurses never touch a stethoscope in their daily work. Nurse data analysts combine clinical knowledge with data science to improve healthcare operations. Legal nurse consultants review medical cases for law firms. Nurse informaticists design and manage the digital systems that hospitals run on. Telehealth nurses provide care remotely, helping patients access advice without unnecessary emergency room visits. Academic nurse writers produce textbooks, journal articles, and continuing education materials. Specialties and Certifications
Nurses who want to deepen their expertise in a particular area can pursue board certification. The American Nurses Credentialing Center alone offers certifications in fields including psychiatric-mental health, cardiac-vascular care, pediatrics, pain management, ambulatory care, medical-surgical nursing, gerontology, and informatics. Each specialty requires meeting specific eligibility criteria and passing a certification exam.

An aging population, rising rates of chronic disease, and ongoing retirements from the existing workforce continue to create openings across nearly every healthcare setting.
