People take it primarily for heart health, to offset side effects from cholesterol-lowering medications, and to support overall energy production. Qunol markets its formulations as more absorbable than standard CoQ10 supplements, though the core benefits come from CoQ10 itself rather than any brand-specific ingredient.
How CoQ10 Works in Your Body
Every cell in your body contains CoQ10. It plays two essential roles: helping cells convert food into usable energy and acting as an antioxidant that shields cells from the kind of damage linked to aging and chronic disease. Your heart, liver, and kidneys have the highest concentrations because they demand the most energy.
Your body’s natural CoQ10 production peaks around age 20 and declines steadily after that. By middle age, levels in heart tissue can drop significantly. That reduction was statistically significant and consistent across studies. The catch is timing: most people need to take CoQ10 consistently for about three months before noticing a difference in how often migraines strike or how long they last.
Other Potential Uses
CoQ10 supplementation has been explored for several other conditions, though the evidence is less robust than for heart health or statin support:
