What Is Wondr? A Clinically Proven Weight Loss Program

Wondr (formally called Wondr Health) is a digital weight loss and metabolic health program that most people access free through their employer. Previously known as Naturally Slim, the program teaches behavioral skills around eating, activity, and stress rather than prescribing specific diets or meal plans. It partners with over 2,100 employers nationwide and has served more than 2 million participants since launching in 2007.

How Wondr Works

Wondr is built around a weekly video series delivered through its app. Each week, you unlock a new set of short videos taught by health and behavioral science instructors. The lessons focus on practical skills: how to recognize hunger and fullness cues, how to eat the foods you already enjoy while changing your relationship with portions and timing, and how to build habits that stick without rigid rules. The core idea is that you don’t need to eliminate food groups or follow a strict plan. Instead, you learn to change how you eat.

Beyond the videos, the app includes tools for tracking your weight, monitoring physical activity, and logging progress over time. You also get access to certified health coaches and an online peer community called WondrLink, where participants share experiences and encouragement. The program sends daily text nudges and reminders to keep you engaged between sessions.

The Shift From Naturally Slim

If you’ve seen the name Naturally Slim before, it’s the same program. The company rebranded to Wondr Health to reflect an expanded focus beyond weight loss alone, including metabolic health, blood pressure management, and quality of life. Your login credentials and progress carry over if you were already enrolled under the old name.

Who Can Use It

Wondr is not something you buy individually off the shelf. It’s offered as an employee benefit, meaning your employer or health plan pays for it and you enroll at no cost. The program is open to all employees regardless of starting weight or health status, and it’s designed to complement other wellness benefits your workplace already provides. Universities, state agencies, and large private employers are among the most common partners. If you’re unsure whether your employer offers it, check with your HR or benefits department.

Clinical Results

Wondr has published peer-reviewed research across several health outcomes. In a study of 3,880 participants from 93 companies, the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (a cluster of risk factors including high blood pressure, elevated blood sugar, and excess abdominal fat) dropped significantly. Among women, it fell from 43% to 30%. Among men, it dropped from 52% to 26%. Separate studies found the program reduced hypertension prevalence and that participants lost a clinically meaningful amount of weight (at least 3% of body weight) through class participation alone.

The program has also been studied in older adults. Research published in Frontiers in Aging found that participants age 65 and older lost weight even when they had multiple chronic health conditions. Notably, education level didn’t predict success. Engagement with the program, meaning consistently watching videos and using the tools, was the strongest predictor of weight loss regardless of background.

Participants who completed the program also reported improvements in energy levels, mood, and digestive comfort. For those who regained some weight after finishing, repeating the program 11 to 15 months later helped maintain long-term results.

GLP-1 Medication Integration

More recently, Wondr has expanded into helping employers manage the rising use of GLP-1 medications like semaglutide (the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy). The company now offers personalized medication management alongside its behavioral program, helping employers control costs while ensuring employees on these medications also build the behavioral skills needed for lasting results. This positions Wondr as both a standalone behavior-change program and a complement to pharmaceutical weight loss treatments.

What the Experience Looks Like

The day-to-day experience is low-pressure. You watch a few short videos per week on your phone or computer, try out the skill you learned during your normal meals, and optionally check in with the community or a coach. There are no required weigh-ins with another person, no food journals to submit, and no mandatory exercise routines. The program is self-paced within each week’s content window, so you can fit it around a work schedule. Most people spend 15 to 20 minutes per session on the video content itself, with the rest of the “work” happening naturally during meals.

Coaching is available around the clock through the app, and the community forum stays active with other participants going through the same weekly lessons. This combination of structured content and ongoing social support is what separates Wondr from a simple library of health videos.
