If your blood pressure is elevated right now, slow deep breathing is the single fastest thing you can do without medication. Beyond that, a few other strategies can help bring your numbers down within minutes to hours, though the approach depends on how high your reading actually is.
Check Your Reading First
Before doing anything else, sit quietly for one minute and retake your blood pressure. A single high reading can reflect stress, caffeine, or even the position you were sitting in. If the second reading is still above 180/120, look for any of these symptoms: chest pain, shortness of breath, back pain, numbness or weakness on one side, vision changes, or difficulty speaking. Move to a Warm, Comfortable Environment

Drinking one to two glasses of water won’t produce an instant dramatic drop, but it supports the other techniques by restoring healthy blood volume and reducing strain on your cardiovascular system. Think of it as removing one contributor rather than a standalone fix.
Eat Something Rich in Potassium
Potassium directly counteracts sodium’s effect on blood pressure. This isn’t just a long-term dietary strategy.
